This morning Marco took me to his latest discovery. Yes ‘his’ discovery. Fundies Wholefood Market has just recently opened up in the suburb of Corinda, in Brisbane. Marco went for lunch last week during work and couldn’t wait to take me. So we went in this morning for brunch. I have to say this is the best organic supermarket I have seen in Brisbane. They have a huge range of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as heaps of other organic, vegan, vegetarian groceries and bulk foods. The best part is that it’s really close to my house, so I don’t have to wait to shop on a certain day or travel far. They are also quite reasonably priced.
Marco really recommended the coffee, so we started off with Soy Flat Whites. For brunch I ordered a Lentil Pattie with two salads (Raw Garden Salad and Lentil, Beetroot, Sunflower Sprout Salad). Marco ordered a Byron Gourmet Pie. It wasn’t vegan, but they do offer a great vegan range. The coffee and the food was great. The salads were really nice and fresh with lots of ingredients and sprouts. The lentil pattie had really nice with a curry flavor. I definitely have to try and replicate this at home. Marco was very happy with his pie and my lentil pattie.
Other things you can order on the menu include some juices, teas, coffees (including rice milk), sandwiches, rice balls, chickpea patties, salads, byron gourmet pies, poached egg and bread, avocado on sourdough etc. There wasn’t a huge range for vegan, however there was enough offered for different diet requirements, such as vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free and organic meat.
We couldn’t leave without trying on of their Funky Fudgey Brownie or their Raw Chocolate Mint Cheese Cake. Both were vegan, gluten free and the pie was even sugar free. They did not disappoint. Marco and I would come back for the brownie alone. The pie was delicious, but the brownie was divine!
After that I had a sticky beak around the store and took a few photos to show you guys what they offer. I have never seen so many bulk grains, legumes, pastas and spices offered. Most are organic. They even have been drums of tahini, molases and honey, a huge range of loose teas and also freshly ground peanut butter and almond butter. They also had many grocery that I haven’t come across before, that are Australian and imported. I didn’t end up buying anything today. But I became a member so I will be back on Tuesday hopefully for their 1st Tuesday of the month discount. Fundies has a few other locations in Queensland and New South Wales, including Paddington, Lismore and Byron Bay.
